Gujarat is located in the western part of India, on the shores of the Arabian Sea. Cancer passes through the northern part of Gujarat. Gujarat has the Gulf of Kutch and the Gulf of Khambhat to the south.

Gujarats coastline and desert area. Gujarat covers about one third of the total coastline of India. The beach between Damanganga and Tapi is made of mud. The northern shore of Tapi, known as the Suvali Hills, is made up of sandy hills. Aliabat and Piram bats are located in the Gulf of Khambhat.
◼️Plains of Gujarat.
Plains of North Gujarat. The sediments of Sabarmati and Banas rivers have formed this plain. This plain is spread over the area of Mehsana, Patan, Sabarkantha and Banaskantha districts.
Plain of Central Gujarat. Orsang, Mahisagar, Vishwamitri, Watrak and Sabarmati rivers have formed this plain. The region between Watrak and Mahi rivers is known as Charotar region.
Highlands of Saurashtra. This highland is composed of igneous rock of basalt. In this high region there are hills like Girnar, Chotila and Bardo. The hills of Mandav in the north and Gir in the south are connected by a narrow, high area in the middle.
Hilly regions of Gujarat. The hills near Danta and Palanpur are known as the hills of Jessore as well as the hills near Khedbrahma, Idar and Shamlaji are known as the hills of Arasur. There are Pavagadh and Ratanmal hills in Central Gujarat.
Kutch has three ranges namely North Dhar, Central Dhar and South Dhar. Kutch has hills of black, mud, chalk etc.
◼️Climate.
Gujarat is a region with seasonal climate. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the northern part of Gujarat. There are deserts in Kutch and Banaskantha districts. Due to the unique shape of Gujarat, there is diversity in the climate. Coastal regions experience a marine climate.
Winter.
Temperatures in Gujarat remain low during the months of December to February. January is the coldest month. The temperature in South Gujarat does not go down as a result of the effect of sea waves. Due to snowfall in the Himalayas, the whole of Gujarat experiences severe cold.
Summer.
The temperature in Gujarat remains high from March to May. May is the hottest month. Summers are relatively less hot in coastal regions. North Gujarat sometimes gets very hot.
Monsoon.
The period from June to September is monsoon. Gujarat receives heavy rainfall in July and August. Cyclones from the Arabian Sea cause severe damage during the monsoon season. Rainfall in Gujarat through seasonal winds has many irregularities and uncertainties which sometimes lead to excessive rainfall or drought conditions.
◼️Rivers.
There are many small and big rivers in Gujarat. Some rivers merge into the desert while some rivers meet the sea. Some rivers flow for many months, some rivers remain dry. The largest river in Gujarat is Narmada. Apart from these there are Tapi, Purna, Sabarmati, Banas, Mahisagar, Saraswati, Rupen, Shetrunji, Machchu, Bhogavo, Khari and Kankavati.

Nal Sarovar in Gujarat is located in the lowland region connecting the small desert of Kutch and the Gulf of Khambhat. There are small islands in Nal Sarovar. Many species of birds come here in winter from distant parts of the world. Many tourists come here to see and enjoy these birds. The area of Nal Sarovar is declared as a sanctuary.
◼️Vegetation.
Compared to other states, the forest area of Gujarat is very small. Dang, Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, Bharuch and Dahod districts cover about 40% of the states forest area. In the hilly region of Central Saurashtra there are dense forests.
◼️Livestock.
Gujarats livestock includes cows, buffaloes, oxen, sheep, goats, camels and horses. Rabaris, shepherds and these heroes etc. are engaged in animal husbandry activities. High breed cows and buffaloes are reared in Gujarat.
◼️Agricultural resources.
Cultivated in 188 lakh hectares of land in Gujarat. In Gujarat, cereals like millet, wheat, sorghum and paddy are grown. Cash crops like cotton, tobacco, sugarcane and groundnut are grown in Gujarat. Horticulture like guava, pomegranate, mango and banana is cultivated in Gujarat.
